Day 205 of Firsts: To the Roof of the Comcast Center! Whoa!

23 Jul

Our concern is not how to worship in the catacombs but how to remain human in the skyscrapers. ~Abraham Joshua Heschel

What a trip! What an experience! All the way up to the roof of the Comcast Center, the tallest “green” building in America.  Awesome.

I was invited months ago to come for a tour of the roof when the weather got warm.  It’s a thrill less than a hundred people have experienced, (at least that’s what we were told.)

At the end we saw the little Billy Penn statue, (famous for allegedly breaking the curse on all Philly sports teams).

Come with me and interns Will O’Donnell and Amanda Schwab to the highest heights in Philadelphia.  Our tour guides are Natalie Kidd and Jim Birch of Liberty Property Trust, head of security and safety at the Comcast Center.

Our knees were weak and rubbery when we came down to earth.  The adventure took our breath away. How wonderful to stand in awe on the roof of an engineering and architectural landmark.

I got the “willies” just watching the video. Can’t imagine how I’d feel if I were up there…..whew!!!!
We did experience the restaurant on top of the World Trade Center “Windows on the World”, and it was thrilling. You definitely feel as though you’re as high as an airplane! I didn’t hear the answer that was asked about the building’s ranking in the world vis a vis height. I wonder how it would have compared to the World Trade Center.

Good for you Lu Ann! You go girl!!!

Yeah, my editing was a little off. Natalie Kidd said the building is probably #14 in the country for height. It was plenty high for me.

What did I learn today from your experience?
    1. I’m glad I didn’t have to walk all those stairs.
    2. Videos can give you motion sickness – or should I say “height sickness”. ;o)

That motion sickness might be because of my shooting skills…lol
