Have you ever been dunked in a dunking booth? Librarians at Indian Valley Public Library will sit on the wet seat on Saturday, August 14th. Students in our Summer Reading Program will earn free toss tokens by reading and participating in programs at the library this summer. On the 14th they will try to send us into the brink. Would you like to join us?

I would love to join you. I’ve never been dunked. Fantastic. Can you send me more info…where I need to be and when? sign me up.

Have you tried flying trapeze? Mary Kelly at Fly School Circus Arts is amazing. She runs the school which is in Upper Black Eddy, PA, a beautiful location with plenty of things to do in the area to make a day of it. She and her staff make the entire experience funny and exciting, they are like a big wonderful happy family. No experience necessary. You will get out flying and swinging all in your first class. The school is not open for the summer but will open again in late August for the Fall season.

I tried it last year with a group of friends and I’ve been addicted to it ever since. You should definitely check it out.

    Barista for an hour?
I’d love to show you what goes into making one of the best espressos on the main line, if you’re game. Come to Town Hall Coffee Co. for a lesson in running a commercial espresso machine!

Ever play disc golf (frisbee golf)? Check out Sedgley Woods Disc Golf Course in East Fairmount Park. I’m sure Tim from Town Hall Coffee would suggest the same!

Make it a day of firsts for you, and another. Spend the day with a High School Senior planning on majoring in broadcasting. Show her what really goes on, and share tips/stories you have learned from your successful career.

    • oneyearoffirsts July 31, 2010 at 6:55 am #

Do you know such a Senior?? I work with college interns all the time, but it would be a first to work with a high school senior….

  7. Jill July 31, 2010 at 10:17 am #

Yes I do, it’s me! I’m going into my Senior year, at Central Bucks High School East! And i’m very interested in broadcast journalism, and I’d love to hear/learn more about it from an expert such as yourself.

    • oneyearoffirsts August 1, 2010 at 8:42 pm #

Ha. 🙂 Okay Jill. email me all your information. When I get back from vacation we’ll see what we can do. We’ll figure something out for you.

    Hi Lu Ann!

So I learned of your blog and “year long project” through Misty Gibbs InspireMail 🙂

I’ve been reading your blog for the last hour–awesome and very deeply touching at times to read!

A long time ago, to make some extra money I signed up to be a singing telegram delivery person. But, I left with the sheet music and slide whistle to rehearse and after about a week of rehearsing called them to say I wouldn’t be able to do the job. (I chickened out)

Have you ever delivered a singing telegram to somebody?! Or are these things even around any more? If so, this may be a possibility for a first if you are running low on ideas for a week!

Regardless…you rock and I can’t wait to see what else you do this year. You go with your bad self!

    • oneyearoffirsts August 5, 2010 at 5:46 pm #

Love your idea. Have no idea if singing telegrams are still around. Even if not maybe I can “hire myself out” to deliver messages one day. So glad you like the blog… Please send any other thoughts and ideas.. So by the way, what did you do after singing telegrams didn’t work?

Have you ever made a homemade greeting card before? I have a group of wonderful ladies that get together at my house once a month to learn new techniques to make greeting cards. You’re welcome to join us? We meet the 2nd Wednesday each month at my house in Harleysville, Pennsylvania from 7-9 pm. This is not a solicitation or advertisement, I’d genuinely love to have you join in our fun for an evening 🙂 if this is something you’ve never done before.

Hi Kelly, Believe it or not I did a Stampin Up for a First already. Keep thinking. Got a long way to go. Any more ideas?

Hi Lu Ann! This is a very cool idea. I would love to invite you to draw your first winning trip raffle ticket at our 5K Race on Sunday, October 3rd. Both of these events, the raffle and the race, support RSVP’s Children’s Literacy Programs. This includes providing over 3,200 new books to Montgomery County Head Start children every year.

Also, if you have never run a 5K at a ZOO you could add this to your 1sts!!!
We hope to hear back from you! Michele

Luann, Have you ever sewn before? I have my own tote bag business, and a small studio in my home. My studio is painted hot pink with green accents and color and fabric al over. I created this space to let my creative juices flow when making my tote bags. I would love for you to come and make your very own “Jeanne Ewe” tote bag. You would first go to the huge array of fabric I have, pick your fabric, then we would go to the large oak table and cut it out. Then over to my vintage Singer sewing machine and immediately create your bag! I can assure you it would be fun! Sewing is alot of fun and creating and working with beautiful fabrics is so enjoyable. Please let me know if you woud like to join me on the creative task of making your very own “Jeanne Ewe” tote bag. Thank you so much for letting me give you another idea of a first. Jeanne

Sounds like a blast, my phone number is 856-589-2738 home phone, cell phone is 609-605-1705 I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy yourself and I am so excited and honored! jeanne

LuAnn, Thanks for a great day yesterday, you are a great student! You did a fine job on making your tote bag. I had a great time!

Now, I know you came here to sew, and I don’t want to monopolize your time just with me, but I am inviting you to basket weave with me. Have you ever woven a basket? Well I am also a basket weaver, and I can teach you to weave your very own pencil basket! Then you can sit it on your desk and look at it everday and say “I wove that basket myself with that crazy girl named Jeanne!” Now if you choose to not weave, I will understand, but it is an idea, if you have run out of them. You know where to reach me if you are interested! thanks again Jeanne

    Dear LuAnn,

Brian Grego told me about your One Year of Firsts. I have been writing a book about Geocaching. If you are interested in trying this out, please let me know.
There are over a million geocaches in the world today and most people have not heard about it let alone done it.
So I am hoping this is something you have not done and would like to introduce it to you.
    For more info see
Hope to hear from you soon!
