Day 297 of Firsts:Toy Run with Chrome Riders

23 Oct

A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself.  ~Robert M. Pirsig, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

I’m a sucker for tattooed, harley davidson  riding guys that tear up talking about the toys they’re about to deliver to kids in a hospital.
I like their kids, their wives and girlfriends too.

Say hello to the Chrome Riders Motorcycle Club out of Mantua, N.J.

Brian Grygo (in the yellow shirt waving at me) compelled me to ride in their annual toy run to Cooper Hospital.  Mark Murdy (hope I spelled that right) put me in his side car and off we went with a police escort, 75 bikers and the most perfect blue skies overhead. (You’ll see Don Pollack, former Channel 6 feature reporter, waving at me on a bike too.)

Pure joy! Seriously, one of the best firsts this year.

Child Life Director Barb McCarty at Cooper Hospital greeted the club like the heroes they are.

On the way back I just felt so grateful to be alive and healthy today and with the nicest folks you could ever want to ride with.

The Chrome Riders have a special place in my born to be wild heart.

And GO PHILLIES!
