Day 364 of Firsts:Le Bec Fin,Eubanks & Summers

30 Dec

If a man love the labour of any trade apart from any question of success or fame , the gods have called him. ~Robert Louis Stevenson

It has been a wild week on the 10! Show co-hosting with Marc Summers, (producer Dinner Impossible,  Double Dare) and Kevin Eubanks who has a new CD out  called Zen Food.

Executive Producer Mina Sabet , Kevin, Marc and I were all invited by Chef Georges Perrier to dine at his world famous restaurant Le Bec Fin.  I can’t tell you how wonderfully surreal the whole thing was.  I’d never been to Le Bec Fin. I’ve never eaten real gold in my food (seriously!). I’ve never eaten so many lovely snails.

Kevin sweetly signed autographs. Marc told great stories.  Chef Perrier wined and dined us and I just kept pinching myself. Is this real???

Well, here’s the video. The food was so beautiful I had to keep taking pictures of it.

C’est magnifique!

Day 363 of Firsts: Chiropractor in the House? Yes.

29 Dec

From the bitterness of disease man learns the sweetness of health.  ~Catalan Proverb

Sometimes when you need help it just leaps out in front of you.  For the last two days everyone’s been telling me I need to see a chiropractor about my wrenched back.

But I’d never been to a chiropractor; didn’t think I knew a chiropractor. Ha.  Jeffrey Cheskin was in the 10! Show audience today with his two adorable little girls. Sure enough he’s a chiropractor who comes highly recommended by one of our photographers.   Thank goodness.

Well, he worked a little magic. Feel a little better. You can see what happened in the video. What a weird feeling…kind of Oww…than AHHH.

Day 362 of Firsts: Double Dare Contest & Reunion

28 Dec

It may be that all games are silly.  But then, so are humans.  ~Robert Lynd

Marc Summers who used to host Nickel0deon’s popular Double Dare game show is co-hosting the 10 Show with me this week.

We thought it would be fun to reunite him with his side kick Harvey. Add Kevin Eubanks of Tonight Show fame and Ace of Cakes Duff Goldman and you got yourself a game.  Well, we thought so.

Watch our version of Double Dare.  I don’t know why I didn’t see that cake coming for my face!

Day 361 of Firsts: Take Raquet Ball to Achey Back

27 Dec

Experience is what causes a person to make new mistakes instead of old ones.  ~Author Unknown

I think I mentioned this yesterday, but I’ve wrenched my back in a way I’ve never experienced before.   I tripped while chasing my daughter’s dog and now the pain in my lower back is a constant pain in my you know what.

I have heated it, iced it, creamed it and drugged it.

Meanwhile, Marc Summers (of Unwrapped, DoubleDare) was co-hosting the 10! show with me today and suggested I take a tennis ball to the wall and put my sore back up against it.

I only had a raquet ball.  Anyway, it kind of worked. It feels better. I could absolutely massage the spot on my back that’s driving me nuts.  Yes, this video looks weird but it was the only First I could muster today.

Day 360 of Firsts: Snow Building Contest

26 Dec

A lot of people like snow.  I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.  ~Carl Reiner

I’ve lost my mind. I wrenched my back yesterday chasing my daughter’s dog Holly.  Don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to go out and play in the snow.

I’m paying for it now. OWWWW.

Well, here it is: the great (not so) snow building contest!

Day 359 of Firsts: Secret Santa Contest

25 Dec

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day.  Don’t clean it up too quickly.  ~Andy Rooney

Okay. I’m so excited about the winner of the Secret Santa contest.  It feels karmic.  59 people on my facebook fan page asked “Will you be my Secret Santa?”

We had all the names assigned a number by Random.org and let the website pick a number.  You can see how we did it in the video.  The website picked #58.

#58 is Deb Thompson !  Just this afternoon on my fan page she said she needed something good to happen. Well, Deb hope this helps.

Send me an email to luann.cahn@nbcuni.com with your address and your secret santa gift will be delivered.  Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

Day 358 of Firsts: Eat Raw

24 Dec

Preserving the health by too strict a regimen is a wearisome malady.  ~François Duc de la Rochefoucauld

I just have to say this was my daughter’s idea. I guess in LA where she lives you can find a restaurant that serves RAW meals in almost any neighborhood.  Not so easy in Philadelphia. We found one tiny place in West Philadelphia.  A sweet little place where the folks like to talk about how raw food does wonderful things for you. I’m sure it does.

I tasted raw kale, beets, slaw, cous cous and even a raw carob mousse kind of dessert. Yep.  Yep. I sure did.

I sure did feel healthy.  I just don’t know if this is for me. Good idea. Just don’t think my palate is quite ready for this pure cuisine.

Happy Holidays.  I’m announcing the winner of the Secret Santa contest on my Facebook Fan page tomorrow.  Check it out.

Day 357 of Firsts: Skate at the River Rink

23 Dec

In skating over thin ice, our safety is in our speed. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’d never skated at an outdoor rink before. It’s different. It’s a lot COLDER! I haven’t ice skated in ages and I move like an old lady on ice. Ha. Thank goodness Alexa went with me.

Fun though. Nice to see families and kids out enjoying the city rink at Penn’s Landing.

Day 356 of Firsts: Tennis Lesson

22 Dec

Good shot, bad luck, and hell are the five basic words to be used in a game of tennis, though these, of course, can be slightly amplified.  ~Virginia Graham, Say Please, 1949

I haven’t picked up a tennis racket in 24 years. That was the year I twisted my ankle so badly on a tennis court I couldn’t walk without crutches for weeks.

I never took a tennis lesson. I never learned to serve.  Today in a half hour Chad Hamilton took care of that. He’s a tennis pro with High Performance Tennis Academy in Bala Cynwyd.
Ha! I forgot! I love this game. I can’t wait to play. Loved it. What a great workout. Yep. More tennis please.

Day 355 of Firsts: Download an ITunes Song

21 Dec

Without music life would be a mistake.  ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

It seems like everyone in the world is downloading ITunes, but me.  Now that I have an IPad I thought it was time to stop being an ITunes virgin and buy a song.

I had to download a Beatles tune. You’ll have to play the video to see which song.  It takes me back….WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY Back. $1.99 worth of memories.
